PayPerFax vs unofax: Which Pay-Per-Fax Service Costs Less?【2026】

Two No-Account Fax Services, Two Pricing Models

If you need to send one fax and never think about it again, a monthly plan is the wrong tool. You want to upload a document, type a number, pay once and be done. PayPerFax and unofax, the service you are reading, are both built for exactly that. Neither needs an account or a subscription, and neither charges you for a fax that does not go through.

Where they differ is how they price a fax. PayPerFax charges a base price that covers the first three pages, then a per-page rate after that. unofax charges the same amount for every page, starting from page one. This post works out what each costs for short and long faxes, then covers what happens when a line is busy, where each one can send, and what happens to your document afterwards.

Note on figures: PayPerFax prices and policies below were checked on its own website on 3 November 2026. PayPerFax quotes prices in US dollars. unofax bills in Australian dollars at A$0.59 per page including GST; US dollar figures for unofax use the approximate rate of A$0.59 to US$0.41 shown on our pricing page, and your bank's rate on the day may differ slightly. Prices change, so check the provider's site before you send.

What a Fax Actually Costs, Page by Page

A base price covering three pages and a flat per-page rate are hard to compare in your head, so here are the totals for your document pages, without a cover sheet. unofax amounts are shown in US dollars with the Australian dollar amount you are actually billed in brackets.

Pages in your document unofax PayPerFax
1 page about $0.41 (A$0.59) $2.50
2 pages about $0.83 (A$1.18) $2.50
3 pages about $1.24 (A$1.77) $2.50
5 pages about $2.07 (A$2.95) $4.00
10 pages about $4.13 (A$5.90) $7.75
20 pages about $8.26 (A$11.80) $15.25
30 pages about $12.39 (A$17.70) $22.75
50 pages about $20.65 (A$29.50) $37.75

The gap is widest on short faxes. PayPerFax's $2.50 base price buys you three pages whether you use them or not, so a single signed form costs $2.50 there and about 41 US cents on unofax. Past three pages, PayPerFax adds 75 cents a page against unofax's 41 cents, so unofax stays cheaper as the document grows. A ten-page fax is about $4.13 on unofax and $7.75 on PayPerFax.

A cover sheet widens the gap a little. On PayPerFax the cover page is one of your three base pages, so a three-page document plus a cover sheet is four pages, or $3.25. On unofax the cover sheet is free and not counted, so the same fax is still about $1.24.

One honest caveat for US senders. unofax is an Australian business and bills in Australian dollars, so a US card may add a foreign transaction fee, typically 1 to 3% depending on your bank. On a ten-page fax that is around 4 to 12 cents. It does not change which service is cheaper, but it is worth knowing, and a card with no foreign transaction fee avoids it entirely. PayPerFax bills in dollars, so there is nothing to convert for a US card.

Where PayPerFax Wins

A comparison that never concedes anything is not worth reading, so here is where PayPerFax is the better pick.

  • Country reach. PayPerFax lists around 200 destinations, from Albania to Zimbabwe. unofax covers 45. If your recipient is in a country unofax does not reach, PayPerFax can send it and unofax cannot, which settles the question. Note that PayPerFax says its headline price applies to most destinations and the exact price depends on the country, so check the total at the preview step for less common ones.
  • PayPal. If you would rather not type a card number, PayPerFax takes PayPal. unofax takes cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, but not PayPal.
  • The money never moves on a failure. PayPerFax places a hold when you submit and only captures it once the fax goes through. If it fails, the hold is released, though it can sit on your statement as pending for a few days depending on your card.
  • A long track record. PayPerFax grew out of FaxBeep, which started as a fax forum in 2000, and its site names Ediblesites Ltd. as the operator.
  • Markdown files. A niche one, but PayPerFax will fax a .md file directly. unofax handles PDF, Word and images, so a Markdown file needs converting first.

Where unofax Fits

unofax charges A$0.59 per page including GST, about US$0.41, to any of its 60+ countries, with no minimum charge. There is no base price and no bundle of pages you pay for whether you use them or not. Page one costs the same as page thirty, and a page to the United States costs the same as a page to Japan or Germany.

  • Retries that keep going. PayPerFax tries three times a few minutes apart, then leaves it to you to resubmit. A fax machine that is busy all morning can outlast that. unofax keeps retrying for up to 24 hours, across as many as 27 attempts, at no extra charge, and refunds the full amount automatically if it still cannot deliver. The retries and refunds policy has the details.
  • No email address. PayPerFax needs your email to send the confirmation. unofax asks for neither an account nor an email, and you follow the fax on a live status page instead.
  • You see every page before you pay. The full preview shows exactly what the recipient's machine will print, including the cover sheet.
  • Published limits. Up to 10 files and 300 pages in one fax, in the order you choose. See how to fax multiple files.
  • Shorter retention. Files are deleted seven days after upload. PayPerFax keeps uploaded documents for 30 days for quality assurance before deleting them.

Where Your Document Goes

For most faxes this will not matter, but for medical records, tax documents or legal papers some people care, so here is what each service publishes.

PayPerFax's privacy policy says its servers run on Hetzner, that documents, previews and transmitted fax images are stored on Cloudflare R2, and that faxes are sent through Upland InterFAX. It also says your information may be transferred outside Europe, including to Canada and the United States. Uploaded documents are deleted after 30 days.

unofax converts and stores files in the AWS Sydney region and deletes them seven days after upload. To transmit the fax, the document is passed to our fax carrier, as set out in our privacy policy. Uploads are encrypted in transit and at rest; the details are on the payment and document security page.

Neither service claims HIPAA compliance or offers a business associate agreement. If you are a US healthcare provider who needs a BAA on file, use a service that signs one.

Faxing from an AI Assistant

Both services have thought about AI agents. PayPerFax publishes a guide to sending a fax through an AI assistant. unofax has a fax API built for agents that takes payment in USDC over the x402 protocol, at $0.20 USDC per page with no account or API key. If you are wiring fax into an automated workflow, that is the cheapest way to send through unofax.

Which One Should You Use?

  • A short fax of one to three pages: unofax. About 41 cents to $1.24, against $2.50 on PayPerFax.
  • A longer fax to a country both services cover: unofax. It costs less at every page count, and the saving grows with length.
  • A country unofax does not cover: PayPerFax. Its list is far wider.
  • You want to pay with PayPal: PayPerFax.
  • The recipient's line is often busy: unofax, which keeps retrying for up to 24 hours rather than three attempts over a few minutes.
  • You would rather not hand over an email address: unofax.

The Bottom Line

Both are legitimate ways to send a fax without a machine, an account or a subscription, and neither charges for a fax that fails. PayPerFax wins on reach and on PayPal. On price, unofax costs less at every page count at the published rates, and the difference is biggest on the short faxes most people actually send. Send your fax at unofax.com for A$0.59 a page.
