Three Pay-Per-Fax Services, Three Pricing Models
If you are in Australia and need to fax something to Medicare, the ATO, a hospital, a court or a conveyancer, you almost certainly do not want a monthly plan. You want to upload a PDF, type a number, pay once and be done. Three Australian services built for exactly that are Faxaroo, OneFax and unofax, the one you are reading. None of them needs an account or a subscription.
Where they differ is how they charge. Faxaroo has a higher first page and a flat rate after it. OneFax makes the first page free and charges for the rest. unofax charges the same small amount for every page. Which one is cheapest depends almost entirely on how many pages you are sending, so this post works through the numbers and then covers what happens when a fax fails, where each one can send, and where your document is stored.

What a Fax Actually Costs, Page by Page
Per-page rates are hard to compare when one service has a free first page and another has an expensive one, so here is the total you pay for a fax to an Australian number. Totals are for your document pages only. OneFax adds its own cover page free, and the unofax cover sheet is optional and free. Faxaroo offers free cover sheet templates, but a cover page you include in your upload is charged as a page.

The pattern is simple. For a single page, OneFax is free and nothing beats free. From two pages on, unofax costs the least of the three, and the gap widens with every page, because 39c is well under half of OneFax's 99c and Faxaroo's $1. By ten pages, unofax costs less than half of what OneFax charges and about a third of Faxaroo.
At the published rates, Faxaroo costs the most of the three at every page count shown for Australian numbers. Its $2 first page means a one-page fax costs slightly more than a five-page fax on unofax.
Where OneFax Wins
A comparison that never concedes anything is not worth reading, so here is the honest part. If your fax is one page, a signed form or a single referral letter, OneFax is the cheapest of the three. It costs nothing. Every fax gets a OneFax cover page at the front, which is free and means a one-page document arrives as two pages, but you are not charged for it.
OneFax also has a clean way of handling failures. It places a hold on your card when you submit and only captures the money once the receiving machine confirms delivery. If the fax fails, the hold is released and no money moves at all. The catch is that the hold can sit on your card as a pending amount for a few days until your bank drops it.
Two things to know before you use it. The limit is 30 pages per fax and 10 MB per file, which is fine for a form but tight for a scanned bundle of medical records or a contract with annexures. And as of September 2026, OneFax's privacy policy says its application and database are hosted in Singapore, with service providers in the United States and other countries, so your document is processed outside Australia. For most faxes that will not matter. For health records, some people and some employers will care.
Where Faxaroo Fits
Faxaroo is an established Australian pay-per-fax service and it is simple to use: upload, enter a number, pay by Visa, Mastercard or Amex, and get an email confirming whether the fax went through. It describes itself as 100% Australian owned and operated and ISO 27001 certified, and says documents are deleted automatically after transmission.
On price alone, it costs more than the other two for Australian numbers: $2 for the first page and $1 for each page after that. International faxes are $2 for the first page and $1.50 for each page after, to the United States, Canada, Germany and Japan. If a fax fails, Faxaroo refunds the amount charged less a non-refundable transaction fee, which the pricing section of its Australian site lists as $0.35 plus 2.5% of the total. Like most services, including ours, it does not refund a fax sent to a wrong number or the wrong document.
Where unofax Fits
unofax charges $0.39 AUD per page including GST, to any of 45 countries, with no minimum charge. There is no first-page premium and no first-page discount. You pay the same for page one as for page thirty, and the same whether the number is in Brisbane, Berlin or Tokyo.
A few details that matter in practice:
- Failures are retried, then refunded in full. If the line is busy or does not answer, the system retries automatically. If it still cannot deliver, you get the whole amount back with no fee and no claim to file. The retries and refunds policy has the details.
- You see every page before you pay. The full preview shows exactly what the recipient's machine will print, including the cover sheet.
- The cover sheet is optional. Add a free cover sheet when the recipient needs one for routing, or leave it off.
- Longer documents than OneFax allows. Up to 10 files and 300 pages in one fax, in PDF, Word or image formats, in the order you choose. See how to fax multiple files.
- Stored in Sydney. Files are converted and stored in the AWS Sydney region and deleted seven days after upload. To transmit the fax, the document is passed to our fax carrier, as set out in our privacy policy.

Faxing Overseas from Australia
International faxes change the numbers again. Faxaroo reaches four countries outside Australia at $2 for the first page and $1.50 for each page after that. OneFax publishes one price, first page free then 99c a page, and says it sends to Australian and international numbers. unofax charges the same 39c a page to all 45 of its destinations.
A five-page fax to a US number costs $8.00 on Faxaroo, $3.96 on OneFax and $1.95 on unofax. If your recipient is outside the four countries Faxaroo lists, such as the United Kingdom, New Zealand or Singapore, you will need a different service. Which One Should You Use?
- One page, Australian number: OneFax. It is free.
- Two pages or more: unofax. It is the cheapest from the second page onward, and the saving grows with length.
- More than 30 pages, or files over 10 MB: unofax. OneFax cannot send it in one fax.
- A Word document: unofax converts it for you. The other two need a PDF first.
- Health records: check where each provider stores documents and how long it keeps them. unofax stores files in Sydney for 7 days, OneFax is hosted in Singapore and deletes within 24 hours, and Faxaroo says it deletes documents after sending.
- Faxing overseas, two pages or more: unofax, at 39c a page to any of its 45 countries. For a single page, OneFax's free first page also applies to international numbers.

All three are legitimate ways to send a fax in Australia without a machine or a subscription. OneFax is the best deal for a single page.
