Delivery status & email proof of receipt

How unofax confirms your fax was delivered and provides proof by email.

Why delivery confirmation matters

One of the biggest advantages of fax over email is confirmed delivery. When you send a fax, the receiving machine acknowledges the transmission. Giving you proof that the document arrived. Email offers no such guarantee.

This matters most in industries where proof of delivery has real consequences:

  • Legal: courts, law firms and regulatory bodies often require proof that a document was received, not just sent.
  • Healthcare: patient records, referrals and prescriptions must arrive at the right destination. Delivery confirmation helps close the loop.
  • Government: agencies and public offices frequently accept fax specifically because it provides a verifiable delivery record.

How unofax tracks delivery status

Every fax you send through unofax is assigned a status that updates automatically as the transmission progresses. Here are the statuses you may see:

  • Sent: the receiving fax machine acknowledged the transmission. Your fax was delivered successfully.
  • Failed: the fax could not be delivered (busy line, no answer, incompatible machine). You are automatically refunded. No action needed.
  • Pending: your fax is currently being transmitted. This usually takes a few minutes depending on the number of pages.
  • Scheduled: you chose a future date and time. The fax will be sent automatically at the scheduled moment.

Checking status on screen

You do not need to create an account to check your fax status. unofax shows delivery information right on the home page:

  • Recent Faxes section: scroll down on the unofax home page to see your recently sent faxes. Each entry shows the destination number, page count and current status.
  • Visible for 6 days: your fax history is stored locally in your browser and displayed for up to 6 days after sending.
  • Status badges: colour-coded badges make it easy to see at a glance whether your fax was sent, is pending, failed or is scheduled.

Because the data is stored in your browser, it is only visible on the device you used to send the fax. Clearing your browser data will remove the history.

Email as proof of receipt

When you send a fax with unofax, you provide your email address at checkout. Once the delivery status is known, unofax sends you an email. This email serves as your proof of receipt. A record you can save, forward or print:

  • Delivery confirmation: if the fax was delivered, the email confirms the destination number, page count and the time of successful transmission.
  • Failure notification: if the fax failed, the email explains why and confirms that you have been automatically refunded.
  • Permanent record: unlike the on-screen status (which expires after 6 days), the email stays in your inbox for as long as you keep it.

Tips for keeping good records

A few simple habits will help you keep reliable proof of every fax you send:

  • Check your inbox: unofax sends a delivery status email to the address you entered at checkout. Save this email as a permanent record of your fax.
  • Save your reference ID: every fax is assigned a unique reference ID. Note it down in case you need to contact support.
  • Check Recent Faxes: visit the unofax home page within 6 days to see the latest status of all your faxes.
  • Keep your email confirmation: archive or label the confirmation email so you can find it quickly if you ever need proof of delivery.
